Changing of the guard at ANZCHOG

A new chapter begins at ANZCHOG, as Associate Professor Andy Moore steps into the role of our Board Chair, following the outstanding leadership of Professor Nick Gottardo.

Andy is definitely no stranger to ANZCHOG. He’s been on our Board since 2020 and is a respected leader in children’s cancer care and research, combining his clinical role at Queensland Children’s Hospital with positions as Director of Research for Children’s Health Queensland and Medical Director of the Queensland Children’s Tumour Bank. His work in acute myeloid leukaemia and biobanking has helped drive innovation in diagnostics and treatment, and his collaborative approach reflects the very best of our sector.

As Chair, Andy will bring deep experience, quiet determination and a sharp focus on what matters: better outcomes for children and young people with cancer. We’re fortunate to have him leading ANZCHOG’s next chapter.

At the same time, we say a HUGE thank you to Nick Gottardo, whose contribution to ANZCHOG has been both strategic and genuinely heartfelt. As Chair since 2020, Nick has helped shape the organisation into a stronger, more visible, and more united voice for childhood and AYA cancer across Australia and New Zealand.

A national and international leader in brain cancer research and clinical care, Nick has advanced treatment options, secured major research funding, and championed early-phase trials in Australia and New Zealand. But what we’ll miss most is his leadership and authenticity – his warmth, generosity, and ability to connect with just about everyone in a room. He leads with heart and humour, and has left an enduring mark on ANZCHOG and the wider paediatric oncology community.

To Nick, we ALL thank you. And to Andy, welcome. We’re grateful for everything that’s led us to this point and excited for where we’re headed.
